Divide batter among prepared pans and bake each layer for 8-10 minutes until golden, cool on wire racks
Prepare chocolate buttercream by beating softened butter with powdered sugar, then add melted dark chocolate and vanilla
Layer each cooled sponge cake with chocolate cream, stacking them carefully and crumb coating the sides
Cover top and sides of cake generously with remaining chocolate buttercream, smooth with offset spatula
