Mix warm milk with active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt, then add the yeast mixture and eggs
Knead the dough for 10 minutes until smooth, then gradually add softened butter while kneading
Fold in the raisins, candied orange peel, and vanilla extract until evenly distributed
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 2-3 hours until doubled in size
Punch down the dough and transfer to a greased panettone mold or tall cake tin
Cover and let rise again for 1-2 hours until it reaches the top of the mold
Brush the top with egg wash and bake at 190°C for 50-60 minutes until golden brown and a skewer comes out clean
Cool in the mold for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before slicing
